IPF AND KEWOPA EMPOWER WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN TAITA TAVETA

Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) in partnership with the Institute of Public Finance (IPF), concluded a two-day Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) training in Taita Taveta County, equipping women entrepreneurs with practical skills to build sustainable and profitable businesses.

The training brought together women entrepreneurs to strengthen their capacity in business management, financial planning, and leadership while increasing awareness of opportunities available through government programmes and procurement.

Led by Hon. Lydia Haika, the training encouraged participants to strengthen their businesses and share the knowledge gained with other women in their communities.

“When women support women in leadership, we create stronger voices for change. I encourage you to take the lessons from this training back to your communities and teach other women so that more of us can grow our businesses and improve our livelihoods,” she said.

Participants received training on financial discipline, business planning, customer service, time management, responsible borrowing, delegation, organisation, and perseverance. The sessions also provided a platform for women to exchange experiences, discuss common business challenges, and identify practical solutions for growth.

The programme highlighted opportunities available through government support initiatives, procurement, and financial services, helping participants better understand how to access resources that can strengthen their enterprises.

One participant shared how access to government procurement transformed her business.

“I once got a tender to supply 800 chickens. The order was beyond my capacity, so I sourced chickens from other farmers within and outside the county. I fulfilled the order, made a significant profit, and reinvested it into my business. Today, I am among the top chicken suppliers in the county.”

The training is part of IPF and KEWOPA’s Women’s Economic Empowerment programme, which aims to equip women entrepreneurs with practical skills, improve access to economic opportunities, and strengthen their contribution to local economic growth.
