EMPOWERING LEADERSHIP THROUGH CIVIC AWARENESS: KEWOPA FORUM HELD IN TURBO CONSTITUENCY

KEWOPA hosted a Women Empowerment Forum in Turbo Constituency, drawing in women, youth, and community members for a dynamic and thought-provoking engagement on leadership, rights, and civic responsibility.

The forum was designed as a space for dialogue and learning, with the overarching goal of equipping participants with the knowledge and confidence to participate meaningfully in governance processes. Discussions were anchored on the principle that effective leadership begins with awareness, integrity, and a commitment to inclusive development.

Participants were taken through critical sessions that explored public participation, disability inclusion, constitutional rights, and the roles of Members of Parliament and Senators in a democratic society. These sessions aimed to bridge the gap between citizens and institutions, while also addressing barriers that often limit the voices of women and marginalized groups in leadership spaces.

In her remarks, Hon. Janet Sitienei delivered a powerful reminder:
“Leadership without dignity is short-lived.”
She emphasized that leadership is not merely about holding office or occupying positions of power, it is about service, values, and how leaders treat the people they represent. Her message resonated deeply, reinforcing the need for principled leadership that is grounded in respect and purpose.

Participants were challenged to take the lessons from the forum beyond the room and to become ambassadors of inclusive leadership, champions of civic awareness, and advocates for creating and protecting spaces where women and youth can lead and thrive.

The Turbo forum is part of KEWOPA’s broader effort to empower communities across the country, promote gender-responsive governance, and ensure that more citizens, especially women, are meaningfully engaged in shaping Kenya’s democratic journey.
